Starting Lineup

Antiste · J. Auer · Bolla · Raux Yao · Cvetkovic · Radulovic · Amane · Seidl · Gulliksen · Wurmbrand · Gartler

SK Rapid focuses on a direct and vertical style of play using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup relies on quick transitions and using wide areas to stretch the opposition. The team looks to win the ball back high up the pitch and move it forward quickly to the front three.

Gartler stays between the posts to organize the back line during defensive phases. A back three of Amane, Raux Yao, and Cvetkovic provides a solid block when the team sits deep. Amane acts as the central anchor to hold the line and intercept passes. Raux Yao and Cvetkovic cover the spaces to the left and right of the middle. Bolla and J. Auer act as wing backs, pushing high to provide width while being expected to track back when the team loses possession.

The midfield works as a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Seidl and Gulliksen must work hard to cover the ground between the defense and the attack. Seidl looks to drive forward and break the line with vertical passes, while Gulliksen helps to shield the defense and recycle possession. This duo connects the back three to the front three, ensuring the team stays compact when the opposition holds the ball.

SK Rapid employs three attackers to create constant pressure on the opponent. Antiste leads the line as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and bring others into play. Wurmbrand operates on the left side, looking to cut inside and create chances, while Radulovic stays wide on the right to stretch the defense. These three forwards press the opposition back line intensely to force mistakes and win the ball in dangerous areas.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads. When Bolla and J. Auer push forward, they create two on one situations against opposing full backs. Another strength is the compactness of the unit, as the back three and the double pivot make it very hard for opponents to play through the middle. The team can also shift quickly from a defensive block to a rapid counter attack.

This 5-2-3 formation provides SK Rapid with a balance of defensive security and attacking width. It is a setup best suited for facing teams that play with high defensive lines or those that struggle to defend against rapid wing play.
