This lineup seeks to win the ball back high up the pitch and immediately transition into a heavy attack. By pushing many players into the middle and wide areas, the team aims to overwhelm the opposition and create constant pressure in their half.
Kiddi stays between the posts to provide the last line of defense. The defensive unit consists of a back two featuring Óskar and Geiri. These two central defenders must play with a high line to squeeze the space between the lines. Because there are only two defenders, Óskar and Geiri must be ready to cover wide areas or step up to intercept long balls. They need to be strong in the air and quick to deal with any runners in behind.
A five man midfield dictates the tempo and controls the center of the pitch. Atli plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to link the lines. Flóki and Karel operate in the central roles, with Flóki acting as a carrier to drive the ball forward and Karel providing stability. Kiddo and YUSIF provide essential width from the flanks, often pushing high to support the attack. This midfield group works to compress the midfield and win the second ball to keep the pressure on.
The front line uses three attackers to pin the opposition back line. Balli acts as the central striker, looking to find the feet of the striker or run in behind the defenders. On the wings, Robbi and Árni act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to stretch the defence. This creates space in the middle for Atli to arrive late into the box. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball and disrupt the build up play of the opponent.
This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to press high in coordinated waves. By having five players in the middle and three up front, the team can create numerical superiority in the attacking third. The wide players like Kiddo and YUSIF allow the team to switch play quickly and isolate wide players in one on one situations. This heavy presence forward makes it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back.
The 2-5-3 formation is a high risk, high reward system built for relentless attacking pressure. It is best suited for matches where the team needs to break down a low block or catch an opponent on the break.
