Starting Lineup

Echeverri · Subiabre · Salas · Lencina · Rivero · Portillo · Acuña · Bustos · Castaño · Acosta · Ledesma

Seeking to overwhelm opponents through high intensity attacking and vertical play, River operates with a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup focuses on heavy pressure in the final third and quick transitions to catch defenses before they can settle. The goal is to dominate the offensive zones and use a high line to squeeze the space available to the opposition.

Ledesma starts in goal to organize the back line from deep. The defensive unit sits in a flat back four with Acuña playing as a left back and Bustos providing coverage at right back. In the center, Rivero and Portillo act as the primary defenders, with Rivero often acting as a ball playing defender to initiate play. The defenders must step up to intercept passes and cover the space left behind when the midfield pushes forward.

The midfield relies on a double pivot to maintain control and connect the defense to the attack. Castaño and Acosta work as the engine room, tasked with breaking the lines and shielding the center of the pitch. They must hold their positions to prevent counter attacks while also providing passing lanes for the defenders. When the team loses the ball, they are the first to press and try to recover possession in the central zone.

Offense is driven by a heavy front four designed to pin the opponent back. Lencina operates on the right wing and Subiabre on the left, both looking to cut inside and create threats. Echeverri and Salas act as the two central forwards, with Echeverri often dropping slightly deeper to link play while Salas stays more central to occupy the defenders. This front line is built to press high and force mistakes in the opposition half.

This formation provides significant advantages in terms of offensive presence. By using four attackers, River creates constant pressure on the opposition back line and can easily isolate wide players in one on one situations. The double pivot of Castaño and Acosta allows the team to maintain a level of compactness when defending in a mid block. The presence of two central forwards also forces the opposing center backs into constant physical battles.

River uses this aggressive setup to dictate the tempo of matches through direct attacking movements. This 4-2-4 formation is best suited for games where the team needs to break down a low block or when playing against opponents that struggle with high pressing.
