A high press and direct style of play defines this team in a 4-5-1. This formation is built to win the ball high up the pitch and hit in behind on the transition. By keeping a compact line in the middle, the team looks to squeeze the space and force errors from the opposition.

The goalkeeper acts as the first line of defense, while the back four maintains a high line to keep the team close together. The LCB and RCB must be ready to step up to catch opponents offside or cover when the opposition tries to play through the lines. On the flanks, the LB and RB provide width and must track back quickly to prevent crosses. The whole defensive unit works to stay narrow and deny the turn to any incoming attackers.

In the center, a double pivot consisting of the RDM and LDM works to shield the defense. These two players are tasked to intercept passes and win the second ball to start attacks. Ahead of them, the LCM operates as an attacking ten, looking to play through the lines and connect the defensive and attacking lines. The RCM and AM act as wide midfielders who help to compress the midfield and provide support when the team transitions from a mid-block to an attack.

The attacking structure relies on a lone ST who acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line. This player must hold up the ball and wait for the AM and RCM to join the move. The AM and LM focus on providing width and looking to get to the byline to deliver early crosses. The team attacks in combinations, using the LCM to find the feet of the striker or split the defence with a through ball.

One major advantage is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, with the ST and AM leading the charge. This formation also offers compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the center. The presence of five midfielders allows the team to win the second ball and recycle possession quickly.

This 4-5-1 lineup is built to disrupt teams that rely heavily on possession. It is best suited for games where the team needs to counter at pace against a high defensive line.
