Santoro stands between the posts to organize the back line. A flat back four provides the foundation for the defense with Villaverde and Trossero acting as the central duo. Trossero works to cover space and intercept passes while Villaverde stays solid in the box. On the flanks, Clausen and Pavoni push forward to provide width, which requires them to track back quickly when the team loses possession.

The midfield functions as a central engine to connect the defense with the attack. Marangoni sits as a single pivot to shield the defense and break up opposition plays. Ahead of him, Giusti and Burruchaga work to drive the ball forward and cover large areas of the pitch. Bochini operates in the space between the midfield and the attack, acting as an attacking ten to create chances and provide key passes to the strikers.

The attacking unit relies on two forwards to lead the press and hold up the ball. Erico and Sastre work as a pair to pressure the opposition defenders. Erico plays as the more advanced striker to stretch the line, while Sastre looks to find pockets of space. This duo creates movements that allow Bochini to find openings to pass through the lines.

One major advantage for Independiente is the ability to create numerical superiority in the attacking third through the movements of Bochini. The team also benefits from wide overloads when Clausen or Pavoni overlap their wide midfielders. This ability to quickly switch play allows them to isolate attackers in one on one situations on the wing.
