Starting Lineup

Perri · Gudmondsson · Bogle · Rodon · Bijol · Strujk · Longstaff · Stach · Aaronson · Nmecha · Calvert-Lewin

Leeds prioritizes a high press and quick transitions through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to control the middle of the pitch and squeeze the opponent in their own half. By using a compact block, the team seeks to win the ball back quickly and push it forward through the center.

Perri stays between the posts to organize the back line. A back three consisting of Bijol, Strujk, and Rodon forms the base of the defense. Bijol provides aerial strength and physical presence in the center, while Rodon and Strujk cover the spaces to the left and right. This unit can step up to squeeze the playing area or drop deep to protect the goal. The defenders work to intercept passes and maintain a tight block to prevent through balls.

The midfield relies on a central core to control the tempo. Stach and Longstaff operate in the middle to shield the defense and drive the ball forward. Aaronson plays as the attacking ten to connect the midfield to the front two. Bogle and Gudmondsson act as wing backs, providing width and tracking back to assist the defense. This group links the defensive unit to the attack by making short passes and breaking the lines.

Leeds uses two forwards to pressure the opposing center backs. Calvert-Lewin leads the line as a lone striker who can hold up the ball and use his aerial strength. Nmecha plays as the second striker to exploit spaces and make runs behind the defense. The forwards press high to force mistakes, while the wing backs push wide to create crossing opportunities. This attacking setup forces the opposition to defend both the width and the central channels.

This formation offers several tactical advantages. The presence of three central defenders and a crowded midfield creates numerical superiority in the center of the pitch. Leeds can also use Bogle and Gudmondsson to create wide overloads by overlapping the midfielders. The ability to press in coordinated waves makes it difficult for opponents to build play from the back.

The 3-5-2 lineup focuses on central control and high intensity pressing. This system is best suited for games where Leeds wants to dominate the middle of the pitch and exploit spaces behind a high defensive line.
