Gustavo Gomez (C) operates as the right central defender, using his aerial strength and leadership to organize the line. Bruno Fuchs plays on the left side of the three to provide coverage. This defensive unit tends to step up to squeeze the space, leaving the defenders to cover large areas of the pitch when the team pushes forward.

In the middle of the pitch, Palmeiras uses a three man midfield to connect the defense to the attack. Andreas Pereira sits in the center to drive the play forward and break the line with his passing range. Felipe Anderson plays on the left of this trio to help link play, while Khellven occupies the right side to provide balance. This midfield trio must work hard to track back and protect the three defenders when the team loses possession.

The attack is aggressive, featuring four players positioned high to terrorize the opposition defense. Vitor Roque and Flaco Lopez act as two central forwards to occupy the center backs and hold up the ball. Piquerez stays wide on the left to provide width and deliver crosses, while Allan operates on the right wing. This front line is designed to press the opposition back line immediately upon losing the ball.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to build play from the back. By having four attackers and three midfielders close to the opposition, Palmeiras can create numerical superiority in the attacking half. Another strength is the way the wide players like Piquerez and Allan can isolate defenders in one on one situations to drive into the box.
