Sarajevo aims to play a vertical game that relies on quick transitions and defensive solidity through a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and absorb pressure before breaking lines with direct passes. The goal is to limit space between the lines and use the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition during the counter attack.

Banić stays between the posts to command the area and organize the back line. The defensive unit uses a back three consisting of Ristovski, Bralić, and Mujkić to maintain a compact block. Ristovski and Mujkić act as the wide center backs to cover the channels, while Bralić holds the middle to win aerial duels and intercept passes. Beganović and Maroodza act as wing backs, providing the necessary width by pushing up the flanks to support the attack. When the team drops into a low block, these players track back to ensure the defensive unit remains difficult to penetrate.

The midfield works as a central trio that connects the defense to the forwards. Cimirot plays as a central presence to shield the back three and break up opposition play through tackling. Ignatkov operates on the left to help move the ball forward and cover the space left by the wing back. Ljajić occupies the attacking midfield role to act as the primary creator. He looks to find pockets of space between the opposition midfield and defense to pick out clever passes. This three person midfield provides a screen that makes it hard for opponents to play through the center.

In the attacking phase, Sarajevo uses two forwards to pressure the opposition defenders. Guliashvili and Kyeremeh operate as the front two, often looking to run into the channels behind the defensive line. Guliashvili can lead the press from the front to force mistakes, while Kyeremeh works to hold up the ball and bring others into play. The wing backs, Beganović and Maroodza, provide the width by making runs to overlap the attackers. This movement forces the opposing full backs to make difficult decisions regarding marking.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to create compactness when defending in a mid or low block. By packing the central areas, Sarajevo makes it very hard for teams to find passing lanes. Another strength is the ability to use wide overloads when Beganović and Maroodza push forward to join the attackers. This creates situations where the wingers can isolate defenders in one on one battles. The speed of transition from a deep defensive position to an attacking one remains a key threat.
