Starting Lineup
DANI · ELSHU · JOHN · HIKMAS · BEKALU · MEDE · SAMI · ABDI · ERMYIAS · MIKI · DENNKAiming to sit deep and strike with pace on the break, this team uses a 5-2-3 formation. The lineup focuses on a compact defensive block that waits for the opposition to overcommit before hitting them in behind. This strategy allows the side to stay narrow and difficult to break down while keeping players ready to sprint forward during transitions.
SAMI guards the goal, acting as the final line of defense. In front of him, a back five provides significant cover across the width of the pitch. MEDE sits in the center of the defensive line, acting as the main anchor to win headers and clear the lines. MIKI and DENNK operate as the wide center backs, stepping up to intercept passes or covering the space left by the wing backs. ABDI and ERMYIAS function as attacking wing backs, tasked with providing width and pushing high up the pitch to support the attack.
The midfield relies on a double pivot to control the center of the park. HIKMAS and BEKALU work together to shield the defense and recycle possession when the team has the ball. HIKMAS often acts as a carrier to drive the ball forward, while BEKALU looks to pick up runners and find the feet of the attackers. This pair must work hard to press in a mid-block and deny the opposition any easy space between the lines.
Up front, the team utilizes three attackers to stretch the defense. ELSHU leads the line as a pressing centre-forward, looking to hold up the ball and engage the opposing center backs. DANI and JOHN operate as wide wingers, with DANI looking to cut inside to create chances and JOHN working to get to the byline and whip it in. The attacking unit aims to trigger a press from the front to force a long ball from the opponent.
This formation offers several tactical advantages, most notably the ability to create wide overloads when ABDI and ERMYIAS join the attack. The central trio of HIKMAS, BEKALU, and the defensive line ensures compactness when defending, making it very hard for opponents to play through the middle. This setup also provides great speed of transition once the ball is won back high up the pitch.
The team relies on a heavy defensive presence to absorb pressure and exploit space on the counter. This 5-2-3 formation is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession and leave gaps behind their high defensive line.
