Ukraine focuses on a direct and vertical style of play using a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup is built to hit teams quickly on the break and use physical presence to win second balls. Rudakov stands between the posts to command the area. The defensive unit operates as a flat back four with Demyanenko at left back and Bezsonov at right back. In the center, Konkov and Kuznetsov form the pairing that must hold the line and remain dominant in the air during set pieces. They work together to block crosses and intercept passes before they reach the box.

The midfield works in a layered manner to connect the defense to the attack. Tymoshchuk sits in front of the back four to shield the defense and break up play. Moving higher up, Mykhaylychenko and Muntyan occupy the central roles to control the tempo and drive the ball forward. Zavarov plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers to create chances and slip through balls into the final third. This arrangement allows Ukraine to maintain control in the middle of the pitch while staying ready to spring forward.

Ukraine employs two forwards to lead the line. Shevchenko and Blokhin operate as the main attacking threats, often working in tandem to pressure the opposing defenders. Shevchenko uses his legendary positioning and clinical finishing to exploit gaps in the defense. Blokhin works closely with him to hold up the ball and bring others into the game. The wide players must tuck in to support the central block, but they also look to push up and support the strikers when the team wins possession.

This formation offers great strength in defensive compactness when sitting deep in a low block. The team can create numerical superiority in the center of the pitch by having four players ready to contest the ball. Another advantage is the speed of transition from a defensive position to a direct attack. By using the two strikers, Ukraine can isolate defenders in one on one situations when they break quickly.
