Flamengo looks to dominate games through extreme verticality and high pressure, utilizing a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opponent in the final third by pushing almost every player forward to hunt for the ball. The goal is to win possession quickly and use a massive wave of attackers to break the defensive line of the opposition.

Rossi stays between the posts to organize the defense while the back line stays very high. Pereira and Ortiz act as the two central defenders who must cover huge amounts of space behind them. Since there are no full backs in this formation, these two must be ready to step up and intercept long balls or tackle strikers in one on one situations. The defensive unit relies on Rossi to sweep up any danger that gets past the two center backs.

In the middle of the pitch, Flamengo employs a double pivot to control the tempo. E. Royal and A. Sandro sit in front of the defense to shield the two center backs and break up play. They provide the platform for the attacking midfielders, Jorginho and Saúl, to push higher up the field. Jorginho and Saúl act as the link between the defensive block and the heavy front line, looking to find quick passes that break the lines.

The attacking unit is extremely crowded and uses four players to stretch the defense. Lino stays wide on the left to provide width, while de la Cruz operates on the right wing to cut inside and create chances. In the center, de Arrascaeta acts as a creative force playing slightly deeper, while Pedro stays central to hold up the ball and finish moves. This front four presses the opponent aggressively to force turnovers in dangerous areas.

This formation offers huge advantages in terms of numerical superiority in the attacking zone. By having four players high up the pitch, Flamengo can create wide overloads and force defenders into difficult decisions. The ability to press high in coordinated waves means the team can win the ball back very close to the opponent's goal. If the ball is turned over, the speed of transition allows the team to swarm the ball carrier immediately.

Flamengo uses this aggressive formation to suffocate teams that try to build play from the back. It is best suited for games where the club needs to chase a result against a team that sits deep.
