This team relies on a heavy high press and quick transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. The tactical intent is to win the ball high up the pitch and immediately attack the space behind the opposition back line. By using three central defenders and two wide wing backs, the team aims to control the wide areas while staying compact when the ball is lost.

In the defensive phase, Gk acts as the last line of defense. The back line utilizes a back five that can shift into a narrow defensive block to deny central access. Dm sits in the center of the defense to anchor the unit, while Cb and Cb provide cover and protect the space behind the advancing wing backs. The Lwb and Rwb play as attacking wing backs who push high to provide width, but they must track back to ensure the team does not get caught on the break. This system allows the defenders to defend zonally and stay close together to squeeze the space in the middle.

The midfield functions as a double pivot, with LCM and RCM occupying the central areas. These two players must work hard to cover the ground between the defense and the attack. LCM and RCM are tasked to press aggressively to win the ball high and then quickly recycle possession to the attackers. One of the midfielders often drops deep to help the Dm during build up, while the other looks to carry the ball forward to link the lines. They must also be ready to pick up runners from the opposition to prevent second balls.

Attacking the opponent involves three attackers across the front, consisting of LW, RW, and CF. The LW and RW act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create central overloads, often leaving space for the Lwb and Rwb to overlap. CF operates as a pressing centre-forward to force a long ball from the opposition. The team looks to attack in combinations, using the width of the pitch to stretch the defence before playing through the lines to the runners. Rapid transitions are the main way to find the feet of the striker in dangerous positions.

This formation offers significant advantages through wide overloads from the Lwb and Rwb combined with the wingers. The team can also achieve compactness when defending by dropping into a low block with five defenders. Another strength is the ability to press in coordinated waves, using the front three to trigger a press that the double pivot and back five can support.

The 5-2-3 lineup is a system built for teams that want to dominate the wide channels and strike with pace. It is best suited for games against opponents who play with a high defensive line and leave space behind their defenders.
