Lithuania National Football Team Formation
Starting Lineup
STAUČĖ · LATOŽA · JANONIS · ŠEMBERAS · STANKEVIČIUS · SUKRISTOVAS · DANISEVIČIUS · NARBEKOVAS · IVANAUSKAS · JANKAUSKAS · BARANAUSKASLithuania prefers a direct and vertical way of playing through a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition with numbers in the final third and look for quick transitions to catch opponents out of position. The goal is to push high and use the width of the pitch to stretch the defense.
STAUČĖ guards the goal for Lithuania and organizes the back line from deep. The defense works as a flat back four with ŠEMBERAS and STANKEVIČIUS acting as the full backs. ŠEMBERAS seeks to overlap to provide support on the right while STANKEVIČIUS covers the left flank. In the middle, LATOŽA and JANONIS form the central pairing, where they must hold their position and use their physical presence to block crosses and win aerial duels.
A double pivot makes up the midfield to bridge the gap between the defense and the attack. SUKRISTOVAS and DANISEVIČIUS sit in front of the back four to shield the defense and intercept passes. These two players must work hard to cover large areas of the pitch, with one often dropping deeper to help the center backs while the other looks to break the line with a vertical pass. They connect the defensive unit to the aggressive front line.
The attacking unit is very heavy, utilizing two central forwards and two wide attackers. JANKAUSKAS and BARANAUSKAS operate as the two strikers, working to hold up the ball and fight against central defenders. On the flanks, IVANAUSKAS and NARBEKOVAS act as wide wingers to provide maximum width. The forwards press the opposition high up the pitch, aiming to force turnovers in dangerous areas so the team can attack immediately.
This formation offers significant advantages when playing against teams that play a high line. The presence of JANKAUSKAS and BARANAUSKAS allows for constant pressure on the opposition center backs, while the wide players IVANAUSKAS and NARBEKOVAS can isolate full backs in one on one situations. Lithuania can also create quick transitions by moving the ball rapidly from the double pivot to the front four.
The 4-2-4 lineup is a high risk, high reward system focused on offensive penetration. It is best suited for matches where the team needs to chase a goal or exploit a vulnerable, stretched opposition defense.
