Because this lineup only employs two defenders, Thiaw and Anton often have to step up to intercept passes or cover large spaces behind them. They must be prepared to defend in wide areas or drop deep to prevent long balls from breaking the line.

The midfield functions as a central engine room using a central block of four players. Raum operates as a left defensive midfielder to provide cover, while Kimmich sits in the right defensive midfield role to control the tempo and switch play. In front of them, Gündogan and Goretzka act as more advanced midfielders to bridge the gap between the defense and the attack. Gündogan helps connect the lines through his passing range, while Goretzka uses his physical presence to drive forward into the half spaces.

The attacking unit is heavily populated to ensure constant pressure on the opponent. Germany employs four forwards to stretch the defense wide and occupy the center.
