Azerbaijan aims to play a direct and vertical brand of football through a 4-3-3 formation. Agayev operates between the posts to command his area. The back line consists of a flat four where Shukurov and Cafarguliyev act as full backs. Shukurov is tasked to overlap and provide crosses from the right, while Cafarguliyev covers the left flank. In the center, Ahmadov and Sadygov form the pairing to hold the line and win aerial duels. They must step up to intercept passes and drop deep to cover the space behind them when the team pushes high.

The midfield works in a central trio designed to control the tempo. Qarayev sits in the single pivot role to shield the defense and break up play. Ahead of him, Mahmudov works to drive forward and connect the defense to the attackers. Rzayev plays as an attacking midfielder to find pockets of space between the lines and create chances. This group must shift together to maintain compactness and prevent opponents from playing through the middle.

Azerbaijan uses three attackers to pressure the opposition defense. Suleymanov leads the line as a lone striker to hold up the ball and bring others into play. On the wings, Huseynov and Tagizade provide width and act as inverted wingers to cut inside toward the goal. Their movement pulls the opposing full backs out of position, which creates gaps for the midfielders to run into. The front line must press high to force turnovers in the final third.

This formation provides several tactical advantages for Azerbaijan. The wide players and overlapping full backs can create wide overloads to overwhelm the opposition flanks. By using Rzayev in a more advanced role, the team can achieve numerical superiority in the central attacking zone.
