Armenia Football Formation
Starting Lineup
ZATIKYAN · ANDREASYAN · MARKAROV · OGANESIAN · ZANAZANYAN · MKHITARYAN · SEMERJYAN · MESROPYAN · BONDARENKO · KHACHATRYAN · GEVORGYANArmenia aims to play with high intensity through a heavy vertical style of play, utilizing a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup focuses on quick transitions and putting pressure on the opponent in their own half. The team looks to use their forward line to overwhelm backlines and force mistakes through rapid ball movement.
ZATIKYAN stays between the posts to organize the back line. A back four consists of MESROPYAN on the left, SEMERJYAN in the center, KHACHATRYAN in the center, and GEVORGYAN on the right. MESROPYAN and GEVORGYAN are expected to push up to provide width, while SEMERJYAN and KHACHATRYAN hold their positions to cover the middle and defend against through balls. The defensive unit must stay compact to prevent the midfield from being exposed during attacks.
The midfield works with a double pivot to manage the center of the pitch. BONDARENKO and ZANAZANYAN sit in front of the defense to intercept passes and shield the back four. They act as the connection between the defense and the four attackers, working to win the ball back quickly and pass it forward to break the lines. These two players must cover significant ground to prevent counter attacks.
A powerful front line defines the attacking intent of Armenia. The team uses two central forwards in ANDREASYAN and MARKAROV to occupy the central defenders. On the flanks, OGANESIAN cuts inside from the left, while MKHITARYAN plays on the right, using his famous passing range and vision to create chances. This front four is designed to press the opposing defenders high up the pitch and create constant threat in the box through crosses and direct runs.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs join the attack. The high press applied by ANDREASYAN, MARKAROV, OGANESIAN, and MKHITARYAN can force turnovers in dangerous areas. Additionally, the team can isolate wide players in one on one situations, giving the attackers space to dribble and cross.
This 4-2-4 formation prioritizes direct attacking play and heavy pressure on the ball. It is best suited for matches where the team wants to overwhelm an opponent through sheer numbers in the final third.
