MTK Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Kovalik · G. KESZEI · J. DANSZKY · I. JENEI · I. NAGY · F. KOVÁCS · K. SÁNDOR · M. VASAS · L. BÖDÖR · I. KUTI · I. HALAPIMTK seeks to control matches through a high press and rapid verticality in a 5-2-3. This formation relies on a strong defensive foundation to launch quick breaks when the ball is won. The team aims to pin opponents back with intense pressure and quick transitions.
Kovalik sits between the posts to organize the defensive unit. A back three composed of J. Danszky, I. Nagy, and F. Kovács provides a heavy presence in the box to defend crosses. J. Danszky acts as the central anchor to cover space, while I. Nagy and F. Kovács handle wide defensive duties within the trio. The wide defenders, G. Keszei and I. Jenei, are expected to push high up the pitch as wing backs to provide width. These players must track back quickly to maintain the defensive block when MTK loses possession.
The midfield operates with a double pivot consisting of L. Bödör and M. Vasas. These two players must work hard to cover the central zones and prevent opponents from playing through the middle. L. Bödör and M. Vasas act as the engine, looking to intercept passes and immediately find the attackers. They connect the deep defensive line to the front three by driving forward or switching play to the flanks.
In the attacking third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the opposition. I. Kuti leads the line as a lone striker to hold up the ball and bring others into play. I. Halapi operates on the left and K. Sándor plays on the right, both looking to cut inside or make runs behind the defense. These wide players help the press by stepping up to harass the opposition full backs.
This lineup offers several tactical advantages. The presence of three central defenders allows MTK to remain compact when sitting deep in a low block. Having G. Keszei and I. Jenei push high creates wide overloads that force opposing wingers to track back. The combination of a central striker and two wide attackers also allows the team to exploit gaps in the defense during quick transitions.
The 5-2-3 formation provides a balance of defensive solidity and attacking width. This setup works best against teams that play with high defensive lines and can be caught on the break.
