MTK Football Formation
Starting Lineup
F. KOVALIK (GK) · D. KESZEI (CB/RB) · J. DANSZKY (CB) · I. JENEI (CB/LB) · I. NAGY (MCD/CMF) · F. KÓVACS (MCD/CMF) · K. SÁNDOR (RWF) · M. VASAS (SS/AMF) · L. BÖDÖR (SS/AMF) · I. HALAPI (LFW) · I. KUTI (CF)MTK focuses on a heavy press and quick transitions when playing a 5-2-3. This formation is built to sit in a mid block and strike fast once the ball is won. The lineup allows the team to control the wide areas while keeping a compact unit in the center of the pitch.
F. KOVALIK sits between the posts to command the penalty area. The defensive unit uses a back three consisting of F. KÓVACS, I. NAGY, and J. DANSZKY. F. KÓVACS and I. NAGY stay deep to cover space, while J. DANSZKY acts as the central anchor. On the flanks, D. KESZEI and I. JENEI play as wing backs. They are expected to push high up the pitch to provide width but must track back quickly to form a five man line when MTK loses the ball.
The midfield utilizes a double pivot to control the central zone. L. BÖDÖR and M. VASAS occupy the two central roles. These two must work hard to shield the back three and break the lines with vertical passes. L. BÖDÖR and M. VASAS need to connect the defense to the attack by moving the ball quickly to the forward line. They are responsible for intercepting passes and making sure the team does not get caught in transition.
In the attacking phase, the team uses three forwards. I. KUTI operates as a lone striker to hold up the ball and bring others into play. On the wings, I. HALAPI and K. SÁNDOR play as wide attackers. They look to cut inside or stretch the defense to create space for the wing backs. The front three work together to press the opponent high up the pitch, forcing turnovers near the opposition goal.
This formation provides a strong defensive base with three central defenders to mark attackers. A major strength is the ability to create wide overloads when D. KESZEI and I. JENEI overlap the wingers. MTK can also shift quickly from a defensive block to a vertical attack, using the speed of the wide players to catch the opponent out of position.
This 5-2-3 formation provides a solid foundation for teams that want to defend deep and counter attack. It is best suited for games against possession based teams where the goal is to sit deep and strike on the break.
