Starting Lineup

Penev · Kazarac · Scott · Longo · Lærke · Gorter · Di Pasquale · Milojevic · Dalla Costa · Esteban · Onyemachi

Lecce focuses on a direct style of play through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup aims to control the middle of the pitch while maintaining enough bodies in the defensive line to handle quick transitions. The team works to win the ball in central areas and quickly move it to the forwards to catch opponents off guard.

Penev stays between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line consists of a central defender, Scott, flanked by Kazarac on the right and Longo on the left. This trio works to cover space and block crosses, with Scott often acting as the anchor. When the team pushes up, the defenders must step up to keep the lines tight, while Kazarac and Longo focus on tracking runners in the wide channels.

The midfield operates with a three man central block complemented by wide players. Milojevic and Di Pasquale hold the central zone to shield the defense and win second balls. Gorter works to connect the defense to the attack by moving the ball between the lines. On the flanks, Lærke and Dalla Costa provide the necessary width, acting as wing backs who must track back to help the defenders and push up to support the attack.

Lecce utilizes two forwards to stretch the opposition. Onyemachi and Esteban lead the line, using their movement to create space for the midfielders. Onyemachi stays high to pin the central defenders, while Esteban looks to find pockets of space to receive the ball. The wingers, Lærke and Dalla Costa, often look to cross the ball into the box once they have pushed high up the pitch.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in the center of the park. With Milojevic, Di Pasquale, and Gorter, Lecce can often outnumber opposition midfielders to win possession. Another strength is the use of wide overloads, as Lærke and Dalla Costa can overlap to create two on one situations against opposing full backs. This allows the team to switch play quickly and find space on the flanks.

This 3-5-2 formation relies on a strong central block and wide support to control matches. It is best suited for games against teams that play with a single pivot or those that struggle to defend deep crosses.
