Armenia prefers to play a direct and aggressive brand of football through a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition in the final third by pushing many players high up the pitch. The team focuses on verticality and quick transitions to catch opponents off guard before they can settle into a defensive block.

Avagyan guards the goal as the last line of defense for Armenia. The back four operates with a clear distinction between the wide and central roles. Muradyan and Tiknizyan act as full backs who provide width, while Mkrtchyan and Harutyunyan hold the central line. Mkrtchyan and Harutyunyan must remain disciplined to cover the space left behind when the full backs push up. The defensive unit aims to sit deep when out of possession to manage the gaps in the middle of the park.

The midfield relies on a double pivot to connect the defense to the attack. Mkhitaryan and Iwu occupy the central spaces to control the tempo and protect the back four. Mkhitaryan uses his passing range and vision to break the line, acting as the primary playmaker from a deep position. Iwu must work hard to track back and tackle when the team loses the ball. This duo holds the center to prevent the opposition from passing through the heart of the pitch.

In the attacking phase, the team utilizes four players across the front line. Spertsyan and Ranos act as two central forwards who push the opposition defenders back. Zelarayan and Barseghyan play as wide wingers to stretch the play and provide crosses. The two central forwards are tasked to press high and harass the opposition center backs immediately upon losing possession. This movement creates space for the wingers to cut inside or overlap.

A major strength of this 4-2-4 formation is the ability to create wide overloads through the movement of Zelarayan and Barseghyan. The team can also use the passing range of Mkhitaryan to switch play quickly and catch the defense out of position. By committing four players to the attack, the team forces the opposition to sit very deep, which creates room for the midfielders to step up and join the offensive.

This formation is a high risk, high reward setup that prioritizes offensive pressure. It is best suited for games where the opponent plays a slow tempo and can be overwhelmed by a heavy press.
