Starting Lineup

Juventus relies on a heavy defensive block and rapid verticality when playing in a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup focuses on being hard to break down while using the width of the pitch to spring quick transitions. Polacek stands between the posts to manage the defensive line. The back five features a central trio consisting of De Ligt, Rabiot, and Romero. De Ligt and Romero act as the primary ball playing defenders, while Rabiot provides extra cover in the middle of the defensive unit. On the flanks, Emerson and Serginõ Dest act as wing backs tasked with covering the entire side of the pitch. Emerson pushes up to support the attack, whereas Serginõ Dest provides the width needed to stretch the opposition.

The midfield operates as a double pivot to protect the back line. Arthur sits in the center to control the tempo with his passing range and ability to retain possession. Beside him, R. Puig works to connect the defense to the attack by moving the ball forward. This duo must work hard to intercept passes and prevent the opposition from playing through the middle. They act as the bridge that allows the ball to reach the attacking players quickly.

Up front, Juventus uses three attackers to create constant pressure. Morata plays as the lone striker, using his strength to hold up the ball and bring others into play. On the wings, Chiesa and Dybala operate as inverted wingers. Chiesa likes to cut inside to drive at the defense, while Dybala looks for space to create chances or shoot. These attackers are the first line of defense, pressing high to force mistakes from the opposition.

One major strength is the compactness when defending deep in their own half. The five defenders and two midfielders create very little space between the lines. Another advantage is the ability to create wide overloads when Emerson and Serginõ Dest overlap the wingers. This forces the opposing full backs to make difficult decisions between marking the wide players or tracking the runners from deep.
