Starting Lineup

Kimmich and Laimer sit slightly ahead to drive the ball forward and break the lines with their passing. The movement of these three creates space for Musiala to run into, making the attack very difficult to mark.

A major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it hard for teams to build from the back. The presence of five midfielders creates numerical superiority in the center of the pitch, allowing the team to retain possession and control the tempo. Additionally, the wide runners can isolate defenders in one on one situations, especially when the wingers receive the ball in space.
