PSG Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Vutsov (BUL) · Léo (BRA/POR) · Bajer (CZE) · Etoundi (CMR/FRA) · Metin (TUR/GER) · Batata (BRA) · Kozlowski (POL) · Nilsen (NOR) · Hammond (ENG) · Cherif (FRA/AGL) · Juan Rojas (VEN)Seeking to overwhelm opponents with high intensity and directness, PSG utilizes a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to play a heavy vertical game that focuses on quick transitions and heavy pressure in the final third. The goal is to pin the opposition back and use the wide areas to stretch the defensive line.
Vutsov stays between the posts to organize the back four. Etoundi and Metin act as the central defensive pairing, where they must maintain a high line to keep the team compact. Bajer and Léo operate as full backs, with the instruction to push up and provide width during the attacking phase. These defenders must be ready to track back quickly if the ball is lost to prevent counter attacks.
The midfield works as a double pivot to maintain some control in the center of the pitch. Batata and Kozlowski are responsible for shielding the back four and winning second balls. They act as the link between the defense and the front line, looking to break the line with vertical passes. Their main job is to intercept play and quickly move the ball toward the attacking players.
PSG employs four attackers to create constant pressure on the opposition. Hammond and Nilsen stay wide as wingers, looking to cut inside or deliver crosses into the box. Cherif and Juan Rojas operate as two central forwards, working together to occupy the central defenders. These forwards press high from the moment the ball is lost to force errors near the opponent's goal.
A major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By having four players positioned close to the opposition defense, PSG can suffocate the opponent in their own half. The lineup also creates wide overloads when Léo and Bajer overlap with the wingers. This forces the opposing full backs into difficult one on one situations.
This 4-2-4 formation focuses on offensive aggression and high pressing intensity. It is best suited for matches where the team needs to break down a deep block or exploit a disorganized defense through sheer numbers in the final third.
