They are tasked to push high up the pitch to support the attack but must track back quickly to form a five man block when defending deep.

The midfield relies on a double pivot consisting of Caua and Schwarz to control the center of the pitch. These two must work hard to cover large spaces and intercept passes before they reach the final third. Caua and Schwarz act as the link between the back three and the attackers, often dropping deep to help the defenders or stepping up to press the opponent. They need to win second balls to ensure RB Leipzig maintains control during transitions.

In the attacking phase, the team utilizes three forwards to create constant pressure. Machado leads the line as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and make runs between the defenders. Merkulov stays wide on the left to stretch the play, while Carmona operates on the right. These wide players often cut inside to create shooting opportunities or to allow the wing backs to overlap. The movement of Machado and the wingers is designed to pull the opposition defense out of position.

One major advantage for RB Leipzig is the ability to press high in coordinated waves with the front three and the midfield. This creates chaos for the opponent in their own half. Another strength is the wide overload potential when Ndzila and Leonhardt push forward to join the wingers. This creates numerical superiority in the wide areas, making it difficult for the opposition to mark everyone.
