Sudan National Football Team Formation
Starting Lineup
BARGLAN (A. ZAYED) · KHAMIS · SAEED AHMED · ABDEL. KASHOUM · KHIDIR · TAIFOUR · YAGOUB OMER (JOHN ROBIA) · ABDALLAH (MOZAMIL) · ABDELRAHMAN (A. ABAKER) · EISA · MONGED A.Sudan plays a direct and vertical style of football using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup focuses on quick transitions and rapid movement to get the ball into the final third as fast as possible. By committing many players forward, Sudan looks to overwhelm the opponent through sheer numbers and speed.
MONGED A. stays between the posts to organize the back line. A flat back four provides the base for the team, with BARGLAN acting as the right back and KHAMIS playing at left back. In the center, SAEED AHMED and ABDEL. KASHOUM hold the line. SAEED AHMED and ABDEL. KASHOUM must stay compact to cover the space left behind when the full backs push forward. BARGLAN and KHAMIS need to track back quickly to prevent being caught on the break.
The midfield consists of a double pivot to provide some stability. KHIDIR and TAIFOUR work in the center to control the middle ground. KHIDIR and TAIFOUR act as the engine room, tasked with intercepting passes and moving the ball quickly to the attackers. This pair must protect the center of the pitch while they look to break the lines with vertical passes. Their primary role is to shield the defenders and link the play to the heavy front line.
Sudan utilizes a front four to pin the opposition defense back. ABDALLAH plays on the right wing while ABDELRAHMAN operates on the left, both looking to cut inside or run behind the defense. Up front, YAGOUB OMER and EISA function as two central forwards. These two attackers must hold up the ball to allow the wingers and midfielders to join the move. The front four are expected to press high and force the opposition into mistakes near their own goal.
This formation offers significant tactical advantages when playing on the counter. The sheer volume of players in the box during an attack creates many chances. By having four attackers, Sudan can create wide overloads and isolate defenders in one on one situations. When the ball is won back, the speed of transition from the double pivot to the front four makes it very difficult for opponents to reset their defensive block.
This 4-2-4 formation is built for a high risk, high reward style of play. It is best suited for games where Sudan needs to chase a result or face an opponent that sits very deep.
