Garcilaso aims to play a defensive, counter attacking game using a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup focuses on sitting deep to deny space between the lines while waiting for the right moment to break forward. The team relies on a compact block to frustrate opponents and limit their chances in the final third.

ZUBZUCK stays between the posts to command the penalty area. The defense operates with a back three consisting of C. TORREJON, H. BENINCASA, and Y. PORTALES. These central defenders act as a wall, with C. TORREJON looking to win headers and Y. PORTALES providing cover. On the flanks, O. NUÑEZ and E. CANALES play as wing backs. They must track back to form a five man line when defending but also push up the pitch to provide width when the team wins the ball back.

A flat midfield four sits in front of the defense to close down passing lanes. K. SANDOVAL and X. MORENO occupy the central roles, working to intercept passes and break the line with vertical runs. They provide the link between the deep defense and the lone forward. On the wings, J. SINISTERRA and A. GONZALES operate as wide midfielders. They must track back to help the wing backs and press the opposition when the ball is lost.

The attacking movement relies on the two forwards, A. GRANEROS and C. OLIVARES, working together. They act as a strike duo that can hold up the ball to allow the midfield to join the play. One forward often drops slightly deeper to connect with the midfield while the other pushes the defensive line back. The aim is to use the width provided by the wing backs to deliver crosses into the box for these two to attack.

Garcilaso benefits from extreme compactness when defending in a low block. This makes it very difficult for opponents to find gaps in the central areas. Another strength is the ability to use the wide areas through O. NUÑEZ and E. CANALES to launch quick transitions. By hitting the flanks quickly, the team can catch the opposition out of position before they can shift their defensive block.

This 5-4-1 formation is built for teams that want to absorb pressure and strike on the break. It is most effective against sides that dominate possession but struggle to break down a deep, narrow defense.
