ZTE Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Grosics · Lóránt · Mészöly · Sárosi · Bozsik · Orth · Hidegkuti · Puskás · Kubala · Kocsis · AlbertA heavy emphasis on verticality and rapid transitions defines the ZTE lineup in this 5-3-2 formation. This system relies on quick movement to break lines and catch the opposition out of position. ZTE looks to move the ball forward with speed, using the wide areas to stretch the defense before central runners exploit the gaps.
Grosics acts as the last line of defense behind a back five that can shift based on the position of the ball. Lóránt, Bozsik, and Orth form a compact central unit, with each defender tasked to cover the man next to them and win aerial duels. The wing backs, Mészöly and Sárosi, provide the necessary width by pushing high up the pitch to support the attack while tracking back to maintain a solid block when the team loses possession.
The midfield works as a trio to control the central zone and connect the defense to the front two. Kubala and Puskás operate in the half spaces, where they can drive forward or switch play to the flanks. Hidegkuti holds the central position to link the play, often dropping deeper to pick up the ball and find passing lanes. This midfield group must press hard to prevent opponents from playing through the center.
Attacking the final third involves two strikers, Albert and Kocsis, who use their movement to pull defenders out of position. Kocsis acts as the target man to hold up the ball, allowing Albert to run into space or cut inside from the left. The wide players, Mészöly and Sárosi, often provide crosses from deep, while the midfielders push up to create an overload in the penalty area.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when the wing backs join the attack. The team can also transition from a deep block into a lethal counter attack very quickly. By having three central defenders, ZTE maintains compactness when defending against teams that try to play through the middle.
This 5-3-2 formation provides a balance of defensive stability and sudden attacking bursts. It is best suited for matches where the team needs to absorb pressure and strike through quick transitions.
