A high press and quick vertical transitions define the River lineup in a 5-3-2. This formation seeks to win the ball high up the pitch and strike rapidly before the opposition can organize. River aims to dominate through aggressive movement and rapid direct play to catch defenders out of position.

Franco Armani acts as the last line of defense, commanding his area with experience. The defensive unit relies on a back three consisting of Matias Quarta, Lautaro Rivero, and Aaron Moreno. Quarta provides aerial strength and ball playing ability to start attacks from the back. While the central trio sits deep to cover space, the wing backs are tasked with providing width. Gonzalo Montiel pushes high to overlap on the right, while Matias Viña makes runs to support the left flank.

The midfield operates as a three man unit designed to control the center of the pitch. Jesus Quintero connects the defensive line to the attack with his passing range and ability to find pockets of space. Tadeo Almada works in the right central role to drive forward and create chances, while Fabricio Vera holds his position to shield the defense. This group works to intercept passes and quickly switch play to the wide areas.

Two forwards lead the line to apply constant pressure on the opposition back four. Lautaro Beltran leads the attack as the striker, often holding up the ball to bring others into play. Matias Carrizo plays as the second striker, looking to make runs behind the defense and exploit gaps. The duo works to press the opposition defenders, forcing mistakes that the midfield can exploit.

One major advantage for River is the ability to create wide overloads when Montiel and Viña push forward. This creates numerical superiority against opposition wingers and full backs. Another strength is the compactness of the formation when the team sits deep, making it very difficult for opponents to break through the middle. The coordination between the three central defenders and the three midfielders ensures they can shift as a block to deny space.

This 5-3-2 formation creates a hard to break down unit that transitions into a lethal attacking force. It is best suited for games where the team needs to exploit space behind a high defensive line or face opponents that rely heavily on wing play.
