High intensity pressing and rapid transitions define Milan in this 3-4-3 formation. This lineup aims to control the middle of the pitch while maintaining a direct threat through wide areas. The goal is to win the ball back high up the pitch and immediately push forward to catch the opposition out of position.

Mike Maignan acts as the foundation in goal, providing stability from the back. A back three consisting of Fofana, Tomori, and Pavlovic stays compact to defend the central zone. Tomori acts as a dominant presence in the air, while Pavlovic and Fofana cover the space behind the midfield. The wide players, Bartesaghi and Saelemaekers, work as wing backs who must track back to form a five man line when defending deep, but they also push high to provide width in possession.

The midfield operates as a central block with Rabiot and Fofana holding the center. Rabiot works to intercept passes and shield the defense, while Fofana drives forward to connect the lines. This double pivot allows the team to control the tempo and prevents opponents from playing through the middle. By sitting in these pockets, they ensure the defense is rarely left exposed during transitions.

Milan employs three attackers to stretch the opposition. Füllkrug acts as a lone striker who holds up the ball and occupies the center halves. On the flanks, R. Leão and C. Pulisic operate as wide attackers who frequently cut inside to threaten the goal. R. Leão uses his explosive dribbling to beat markers on the wing, while C. Pulisic looks to break the line with direct runs. Their movement creates space for the wing backs to overlap.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to press high in coordinated waves. The wide positioning of Bartesaghi and Saelemaekers creates wide overloads when they push up. Furthermore, the presence of three mobile attackers allows Milan to isolate wide players in one on one situations. This makes it very difficult for the opponent to defend the full width of the pitch.

This 3-4-3 lineup relies on aggressive ball recovery and quick vertical movement. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high line and can be punished on the break.
