A high pressing and direct style of play defines Cameroon and their 3-5-2 formation. EPASSY stays between the posts to organize the defensive unit. A back three provides a solid base where S. KOTTO sits central to command the area and intercept long balls. TOLO plays as the left center back to cover space, while MALONE operates as the right center back to provide aerial strength. This trio must stay compact to prevent through balls from breaking the line.

The midfield relies on a single pivot to control the tempo. BALEBA acts as the shield for the defense, sitting deep to intercept passes and break up play. To his sides, EBONG and NAMASO operate as central midfielders to drive forward and connect the defense to the attack. The team expands into a five man unit when defending, with YONGWA pushing up as a left attacking midfielder and TCHAMADEU moving into the right attacking midfield role to provide width.

In the final third, the formation utilizes two strikers to stretch the opposition. KOFANE works as a left striker to hold up the ball and battle defenders, while MBEUMO operates as a right striker to exploit spaces. MBEUMO uses his clinical movement and high pressing intensity to harass the back line. This pair creates constant movement, forcing the opposing center backs to step up or drop deep.

This formation offers significant advantages through its midfield density. The presence of BALEBA, EBONG, and NAMASO allows Cameroon to claim numerical superiority in the center of the pitch. Furthermore, the wide roles of YONGWA and TCHAMADEU create overlaps that isolate defenders in one on one situations. This ability to shift from a narrow block to a wide attacking force makes them very difficult to mark.
