Cameroon National Football Team Formation
Starting Lineup
MALONE · S. KOTTO · TOLO · EBONG · BALEBA (BOYOMO) · TCHAMADEU · MBEUMO · NAMASO (KEMEN) · YONGWA (NAGIDA) ((C. WOOH)) · KOFANE · EPASSYA high press and rapid verticality define the way Cameroon operates in this 3-5-2. This formation seeks to control the central channels while using wing backs to stretch the opposition. By committing numbers to the middle, the Indomitable Lions can quickly win the ball and drive forward to exploit gaps behind the opponent.
EPASSY stands between the posts to organize the defensive unit. A back three forms the base of the lineup with S. KOTTO acting as the central figure to hold the line and command the area. TOLO occupies the left side of the back three while MALONE covers the right, providing strength in the air and depth to the defensive block. These defenders must step up to catch attackers offside or drop deep to protect the space behind.
The midfield functions through a single pivot system that connects the back three to the rest of the team. BALEBA sits in the deep hole to shield the defense, intercept passes, and break the line with vertical passes. NAMASO and EBONG work in the central areas to drive forward and support the transition. Further up the pitch, YONGWA operates as a left attacking midfielder to create chances, while TCHAMADEU pushes high from the right to provide width and cross the ball into the box.
Cameroon relies on a dual threat in the attacking line to force opposition defenders into difficult decisions. KOFANE operates as a left striker to hold up the ball and press the defenders, while MBEUMO plays as a right striker. MBEUMO is known for his intense pressing and ability to cut inside from wide areas to shoot. The two forwards must work in tandem to create space for the attacking midfielders to run into.
This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its central density and wide coverage. The presence of BALEBA and the two central midfielders allows Cameroon to achieve numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. Additionally, the movement of YONGWA and TCHAMADEU creates wide overloads that force the opposition to shift constantly. This movement can isolate the wingers in one on one situations during a quick transition.
The 3-5-2 lineup provides a strong balance between defensive stability and attacking width. It is best suited for matches against teams that play with a narrow midfield where Cameroon can exploit the flanks.
