A heavy high press and rapid transition play define this team using a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup looks to win the ball back high up the pitch and move the play forward with speed through the middle. The intention is to dominate the center of the pitch while using wide players to stretch the defense during the attacking phase.
D'AGATA sits between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back three consists of SCALIA, PINO, and GODINO who operate as a zonal line. PINO and GODINO act as the wide centre-backs to cover the flanks when the midfielders push up, while SCALIA holds the center to sweep behind the line. This trio works to keep the defensive unit compact and prevents runners from finding space between the lines.
The midfield uses a single pivot with a three-man midfield to control the tempo. INDELICATO acts as the shield to protect the back three and intercept passes in the middle. To his side, TRIOLO and LOREFICE operate as the central engine, with TRIOLO driving forward with the ball and LOREFICE connecting the defensive and attacking lines. ANASTASIO and FRICANO push higher into the half spaces to act as two tens, pressing aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch and providing service to the forwards.
The attack features two forwards in a partnership to occupy the opposition centre-backs. NIOSI and GRASSO work in close combination, with one acting as a target man to hold up the ball and the other looking to make runs in behind. The team builds play by using the two tens to create overloads in the central areas. When attacking, the forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball, allowing the midfield to win the second ball and restart the attack.
One major advantage of this formation is the numerical superiority in midfield when ANASTASIO and FRICANO step up. This creates a box that can overwhelm a standard three-man midfield. Another strength is the ability to press in coordinated waves, using the front two and the two attacking midfielders to squeeze the space and force errors from the opponent.
This 3-5-2 lineup is built for a high intensity game that relies on winning the ball in advanced areas. It is best suited for facing opponents who struggle to play out from the back under heavy pressure.
