De Vrij provides leadership and aerial strength, while Bastoni works as a ball playing defender to start attacks from deep. Akanji covers the space between the center and the wide areas. These defenders often step up to compress the pitch when the team holds a high line.

Control of the center comes from a central midfield trio of Barella, Zielinski, and Calhanoglu. Calhanoglu operates in the advanced midfield role to connect the lines, using his wide passing range to switch play. Barella drives forward to support the attack, while Zielinski helps link the defense to the front two. This midfield unit works to intercept passes and shield the defenders.

The attacking force features two forwards, Lautaro Martinez and Thuram. Martinez works as a mobile striker who can drop deep to hold up the ball, while Thuram uses his pace and strength to stretch the defense. Providing the width are Dimarco and Dumfries. Dimarco and Dumfries push high up the flanks to overlap the midfield, creating crosses and forcing opposition wingers to track back.

Wide overloads occur when Dimarco and Dumfries push high, pinning back the opposing wing backs. Additionally, the ability to press high in coordinated waves from the front three and the midfield makes Inter very difficult to build play against.
