Custom Team Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Syam · Am · Alan · Adam · Walid (Shahrul) · Maman · Izhwan · Nizam · Man · Jai · JawaA heavy reliance on quick transitions and width defines this team, which operates in a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to defend in a deep block and use the speed of the front three to catch opponents out on the break. The intention is to stay compact and wait for the right moment to hit in behind on the transition.
Jawa sits between the posts to command the area and clear the lines when needed. The defensive unit uses a back five that can shift between a narrow block and a wider stance. Am acts as the central defender to hold the line, while Nizam and Syam operate as the side centre-backs to cover space. The wing backs, Man and Jai, are tasked with providing the width and must track back to help the back five. Man and Jai are expected to push high to support the attack, which requires them to cover massive amounts of ground.
The midfield relies on a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Adam and Izhwan must work in close proximity to protect the defense and win the second ball. Adam often looks to carry the ball forward to link the play, while Izhwan sits a bit deeper to deny the turn of opposing attackers. This pair must communicate constantly to ensure they do not get bypassed by vertical passes. Their primary job is to recycle possession and find the wide players as soon as they win it back.
In the final third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defense. Alan operates as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and link up with the wide men. Maman and Walid act as inverted wingers who cut inside to occupy the half-spaces, creating room for the wing backs to overlap. This movement is designed to isolate wide players in one on one situations or create cutbacks from the byline. The front three also trigger a press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
One major advantage for this lineup is the ability to create wide overloads when Man and Jai push forward. This forces the opposition to defend more space and can leave their flanks exposed. Another strength is the compactness when defending, as the five defenders and two midfielders make it very hard to play through the lines. The team is very difficult to break down in a low block because of this density.
This 5-2-3 formation is a specialized tool for teams that want to sit deep and strike with pace. It is best suited for matches against dominant sides where the goal is to defend the box and counter at pace.
