Focusing on a high press and rapid transition, this team utilizes a 4-3-3 formation to squeeze the opposition. The lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and move the ball forward with verticality. By keeping the lines tight, the squad looks to control the game through intense pressure and quick ball movement.
Romano guards the goal and organizes the defensive line from deep. The defense sits in a flat back four where BRUGALETTA acts as an attacking full back to provide width on the right. On the left, MOLLICA is tasked to overlap and support the winger. In the center, INTZIDIS and VALENCA form a solid pairing, with INTZIDIS acting as a ball playing defender to start attacks and VALENCA providing cover to sweep behind the line. The unit works to stay compact and deny the turn to any incoming attackers.
The midfield functions as a three man midfield with a carrier. ASERO plays as the left sided central midfielder to press aggressively and win the ball high up the pitch. ALIOTO operates on the right to help connect the defensive and attacking lines, while BONANNO sits in the middle to shield the defense and recycle possession. This trio aims to compress the midfield and prevent the opponent from playing through the lines. They work to intercept passes and immediately look to drive forward when possession is regained.
An attacking front three provides constant pressure on the opposition back line. CAPPELLO plays as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and create central overloads, while SESSA stays wide on the right to stretch the defense. BELLUSO acts as a pressing centre forward to lead the front line and hold up the ball for the oncoming midfielders. The goal is to create runs in behind and use the width provided by the wingers to whip it in for the striker.
This formation offers the advantage of being able to press high in coordinated waves to force a long ball from the opponent. The team can also create wide overloads from overlapping full backs when the wingers move into central spaces. These movements help to isolate wide players in one on one situations to break the lines.
This 4-3-3 lineup is designed for a high tempo game where winning the ball high is the priority. It is best suited for facing opponents that struggle to play out from the back under heavy pressure.
