KODJOVI (OBILALÉ) · SERGE (AKAKPO) · KÉVIN (BOMA) · LOÏC (BESSILÉ) · KENNEDY (BOATENG) · ROGER (AHOLOU) · KARIM (DERMANE) · KHALED (NAREY) · FLOYD (AYITÉ) · MATHIEU (DOSSEVI) · EULOGE PLACCA (FESSOU)A high press and aggressive verticality define this team, which operates in a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and quickly drive towards the opposition goal. The intent is to stretch the defence through direct passing and rapid transitions, making the team very dangerous when they can play on the break.
KODJOVI acts as the last line of defence in goal. The back line functions as a flat back four, where SERGE plays as the right back and KENNEDY operates as the left back. Both full backs are expected to push high to provide width, while KÉVIN and LOÏC form the central pair. KÉVIN acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks, and LOÏC provides cover to sweep behind the line when the team plays with a high line. This defensive unit works to squeeze the space between the lines and maintain a compact block when they are not pressing.
The midfield operates with a three-man midfield consisting of a central pivot and two advanced players. ROGER plays as the single pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession. KARIM works alongside him to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often carrying the ball forward into the half spaces. MATHIEU plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space between the lines. This trio works to control the tempo and ensure the team can transition from a mid-block into an attacking wave.
In the attacking third, the team uses three attackers to pin the opposition back. EULOGE PLACCA leads the line as a pressing centre-forward who fights for long balls and holds up the ball. On the flanks, FLOYD and KHALED act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to spread the play. FLOYD and KHALED are tasked to cut inside to create goalscoring chances, allowing the full backs to overlap. The movement of the front three is designed to create runs in behind and isolate wide players in one on one situations.
The formation offers several tactical advantages. The high press from the front three can trigger a press in waves to win the ball high up the pitch. By using wide wingers, the team creates wide overloads when SERGE and KENNEDY push forward. This setup also provides great speed of transition, as the midfield can quickly find the forwards to hit in behind on the transition.
This 4-3-3 formation relies on intense pressing and quick vertical movements to break down opponents. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play out from the back or leave large spaces behind their defensive line.
