This lineup relies on winning the ball back quickly and moving it forward with speed to catch the opposition out of position. Robin sits between the three defenders to act as the first point of distribution. The back three consists of Stefan, Kacper, and Dominik, who form a solid wall to protect the middle of the pitch. Stefan and Kacper provide width to the defensive unit while Dominik remains central to intercept passes and win aerial duels. This trio works together to maintain a high line, stepping up to squeeze the space between the defense and the midfield.

Control of the center comes from a five man midfield. Nadiem and Kaishu operate as the defensive pivot to shield the back three and track runners. Silvan and Philipp push higher to drive forward and connect the defensive unit to the attack. Lee plays in the pocket as an attacking midfielder to find gaps in the opposition lines and deliver final balls. This midfield group must work hard to press together and prevent the opponent from playing through the middle.

The attacking unit features two forwards, Benedict and Nelson, who work in tandem. Nelson leads the line and looks to hold up the ball or run into channels, while Benedict searches for space to arrive late in the box. They press the opposition defenders constantly to force mistakes and turnovers. This two man front line forces the opposing center backs to stay deep, which creates more room for Lee and the central midfielders to operate.

Mainz can exploit teams through their ability to press high in coordinated waves. The numerical superiority in the central midfield allows Silvan and Philipp to overwhelm opponents during transitions. Additionally, the presence of Benedict and Nelson creates direct threats that force the opposition to defend deeply. This formation makes the team very difficult to break down when they sit deep and protect the central zones.
