Starting Lineup
Conde · Vranković · Plessas · Banschewitz · Popović · Glock · Hanok · Haverty · Barber · Roy · SeisslerA focus on high pressing and quick vertical transitions defines this team and they operate in a 3-5-2. This formation seeks to win the ball high up the pitch and immediately strike the opposition before they can settle. The lineup is built to control the central areas while using the width of the pitch to stretch opposing defensive blocks.
Conde sits between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit consists of a back three with Vranković acting as the central anchor. Banschewitz plays as the left wide centre-back while Plessas operates on the right. Vranković stays deep to sweep behind the line, while Banschewitz and Plessas are tasked to step up and engage attackers to prevent them from turning. This defensive trio aims to hold a compact line to deny space between the lines.
The midfield is a dense block designed to squeeze the space in the center. Popović and Glock act as a double pivot to shield the defence and win the second ball. Hanok operates as the central engine to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often carrying the ball forward to progress through the thirds. Ahead of him, Barber and Haverty occupy the half-spaces as attacking midfielders. Barber works from the left and Haverty from the right to link play and arrive late into the box to support the strikers.
In the final third, the team uses two forwards in a partnership. Seissler and Roy lead the line to press from the front and disrupt the opposition build up. Seissler works as a mobile striker to find space, while Roy acts as a target man to hold up the ball and lay it off to the oncoming midfielders. The movements of Barber and Haverty create constant threat through combination play, often looking to slip through balls to Roy or Seissler to exploit runs in behind.
This formation offers significant numerical superiority in the midfield through the presence of five players. The combination of the double pivot and the two attacking midfielders makes it very difficult for opponents to control the center of the pitch. Additionally, the team can transition at pace by using the direct passing range of the central midfielders to bypass the midfield entirely.
The 3-5-2 lineup is designed for teams that want to dominate the central zone and punish opponents on the break. It is most effective against sides that play with a narrow midfield and struggle to deal with late runners.
