A high pressing and direct style of football defines Atlético in this 5-2-3 formation. The team aims to win the ball high up the pitch and quickly move it forward to catch the opposition out of position. This lineup relies on verticality to break lines and create chances before the opponent can settle into their defensive blocks.

Abhi sits between the posts to organize the back line. A trio of central defenders forms the core of the defense with Aaleem, Aayush, and Naitik. Aayush and Naitik provide the width within the three, while Aaleem stays central to cover space. The wing backs, Druva and Viraj, are tasked with providing width and tracking back to defend the flanks. When the team sits deep, the wing backs drop to create a flat five, but they often push high to support the attack.

The midfield operates with two central players to link the defense and the attack. Yash acts as the single pivot to shield the back three and intercept passes in the middle third. Ahead of him, Harsh works as an attacking midfielder to drive forward and find pockets of space between the lines. This duo must work hard to cover the ground between the defensive unit and the front three to prevent being overrun.

A heavy emphasis on attacking width comes from the front three. Eish and Chaitanya act as wide attackers, with Eish positioned on the left and Chaitanya on the right. They look to cut inside or hold the ball to allow the wing backs to overlap. Avigna leads the line as the lone striker, tasked with holding up the ball and pressing the opposing center backs. This front line moves together to press in waves and force turnovers.

Atlético gains a significant advantage through the width provided by Druva and Viraj, which creates wide overloads against most back four systems. The formation also allows for great compactness when defending in a low block, making it difficult for opponents to find gaps. By using Avigna to pin defenders back, the team can isolate Eish and Chaitanya in one on one situations during quick transitions.

This 5-2-3 formation provides a robust defensive base while allowing for rapid counter attacks. It is a system best suited for facing teams that play with high defensive lines or rely heavily on possession.
