Svilar acts as the last line of defense, starting the build up from the back. A back three consisting of Mancini, Hermoso, and N'dicka provides a solid foundation. Mancini and N'dicka often step up to intercept passes, while Hermoso provides cover and holds the line. The wing backs, Angeliño and Wesley, push high to provide width, essentially acting as wide midfielders when the team has the ball.

The midfield operates with a central trio that connects the defense to the attack. Zubimendi holds his position to shield the back three and break up play, while Koné drives forward to carry the ball into the final third. Dybala operates as the attacking ten, finding pockets of space between the lines to create chances. This midfield unit works to press opponents aggressively and switch play to the wide areas.

In the final third, Roma utilizes two forwards to stretch the opposition. Dovbyk acts as the focal point to hold up the ball and battle with center backs, while Nkunku plays as a second striker who can cut inside and shoot. The movement of Angeliño and Wesley creates overloads on the flanks, forcing defenders to shift and leaving gaps for Dybala or the strikers to exploit.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in the center of the pitch. Having Zubimendi, Koné, and Dybala allows the team to overwhelm opponents in the middle. Another strength lies in the wide overloads provided by Wesley and Angeliño, which can isolate defenders in one on one situations. The compactness of the three center backs and the central midfield makes Roma very hard to break down when they sit deep.
