Tierney acts as a left wing back to push high into the final third, whereas Araujo provides a running threat from the right side. This five man unit allows the team to sit deep when needed or step up to compress the space.

The midfield operates as a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Hatate and Engels are responsible for linking the defense to the attack. Hatate provides energy and movement to break the lines, while Engels looks to control the tempo and switch play. These two midfielders must work hard to cover the spaces left by the wing backs and ensure they do not get bypassed during transitions. Their primary job is to intercept passes and immediately find the front three.

In the attacking phase, Celtic utilize three attackers to stretch the opposition. Maeda operates as a left winger, using his intense pressing intensity to harass defenders. Nygren stays wide on the right to provide width and crosses. Adamu leads the line as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and make runs into the box. The movement of Maeda and Nygren is designed to pull defenders wide, creating space for Adamu to operate centrally.

The formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to press high in coordinated waves. By having Maeda and Nygren close down the opposition full backs, the team forces turnovers in dangerous areas. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads. When Araujo or Tierney overlap, they combine with the wingers to outnumber the opposing defenders. This makes Celtic very difficult to defend against in transition.
