A high press and aggressive verticality define this lineup as the team operates in a 4-4-2. This formation is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opposition can settle. The goal is to squeeze the space in the middle and use the wide areas to stretch the defence during transitions.
Bonfiglio acts as the last line of defence behind a flat back four. Ber talla plays as the right back to provide width, while Insana covers the left side as the left back. In the center, Di Luca and Dridi form the heart of the defence, acting as the primary blockers to stop any central runs. Di Luca and Dridi work together to hold the line and clear the lines when the pressure is high. The unit is designed to push up to support the midfield and maintain a high line to keep the team compact.
The midfield relies on a central pairing of Picone and Lo Cascio to shield the defence and win the second ball. Valente operates as the left central midfielder, helping to connect the defensive unit with the attack. Lo Grande plays as an attacking ten in the hole, looking to pick up runners and find space between the opposition lines. This midfield group works to compress the midfield and ensure that the transition from defence to attack is direct. Picone and Lo Cascio focus on recycling possession and pressing aggressively to regain control.
A two man strike force leads the front line, with Maltese acting as the left striker and Taimech playing as the right striker. The two forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. Maltese and Taimech look to play one-two combinations to break the line, often making runs in behind the defenders. The team uses the wide areas to deliver crosses into the box, while Lo Grande stays close to the strikers to act as a shadow striker in tight spaces.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, with the forwards and midfielders working together to trigger a press. The 4-4-2 also allows for numerical superiority in the central areas when Picone and Lo Cascio sit deep to protect the back four. This setup creates a strong defensive block that is difficult to break through once the team drops into a mid-block.
This 4-4-2 formation focuses on high intensity and rapid attacking movements to catch opponents off guard. It is best suited for matches against teams that play a slow build up from the back.
