This team focuses on a direct and vertical style of play using a 4-4-2 formation. The tactical setup aims to hit the opposition quickly in transition and use two strikers to pin the defenders back. By maintaining a compact block, the team looks to win the ball and move it forward rapidly to exploit spaces between the lines.

Bonfiglio plays between the posts to command the area. The defensive line consists of a flat back four with Bertella acting as the right back and Insana occupying the left back position. Di Luca and Dridi operate as the central defenders, where Di Luca acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks while Dridi provides cover and remains dominant in the air. This unit works together to hold a high line or drop into a mid-block depending on the ball position to keep the team compact.

The midfield functions with a central pairing of Picone and Lo Cascio who work to shield the defense and win the second ball. Valente operates on the left side to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while Lo Grande plays as an advanced midfielder in the hole to support the front two. Picone and Lo Cascio act as the engine room, with Picone often looking to drive forward with the ball and Lo Cascio holding his position to deny the turn of opposition players. This midfield unit must press in pairs to squeeze the space and force turnovers.

The attacking front line features a partnership of two strikers, Maltese and Taimech. Maltese leads the line as the primary forward, while Taimech works alongside him to create combinations. They act as a pressing duo to hunt the ball high up the pitch and disrupt the opposition build up. The movement is designed to create runs in behind and allow the wingers and attacking midfielders to deliver crosses or cutbacks into the box. The attackers often look to link up play with Lo Grande to pull the defenders out of position.

This formation offers significant advantages such as numerical superiority in the central areas when the midfielders push up. The team can also use the two strikers to isolate wide players in one on one situations during quick breaks. By using the advanced movement of Lo Grande, the team creates an overload in the final third that is difficult to track.

The 4-4-2 formation is built for a high press and quick transitions. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high line and leave space behind their defenders.
