Starting Lineup

This lineup relies on a direct and vertical style of play through a 4-4-2 formation. The goal is to hit the opposition quickly and use the width of the pitch to stretch the defense. By playing with two banks of four, the team aims to stay compact while preparing to launch attacks in transition.

Ardhi operates between the posts to organize the defense. The back line consists of a flat back four with Andi as the right back and Fahri as the left back. They are tasked to hold the line and cover the wide areas when the midfield pushes forward. In the center, Dedi and Bontot act as the central defenders to defend zonally and win the second ball. Dedi and Bontot must stay close to each other to prevent runners from slipping between them.

The midfield works in two lines of two to control the central areas. Azan and Risa play as the central pairing, where Azan looks to connect the defensive and attacking lines while Risa works to press in a mid-block and win the ball back. On the flanks, Kiting and Didik provide the width. Kiting and Didik are expected to track back to help the full backs and then push forward to support the attack. This unit must stay narrow to deny the turn to opposition playmakers.

Up front, the team utilizes two forwards in a partnership. Ucil and Sahrul lead the line, with Ucil acting as a pressing centre-forward to trigger a press from the front. Sahrul works to hold up the ball and allow the midfielders to move up the pitch. The attacking movements focus on runs in behind and using the wingers to get to the byline. Ucil and Sahrul often combine in tight spaces to create chances for themselves or to lay it off to arriving midfielders.

This formation offers great compactness when defending in a low block. The team can easily shift between shapes to cover the width of the pitch. By using Kiting and Didik, the team can create wide overloads to pull defenders out of position. The direct nature of the passing allows for a high speed of transition when the ball is recovered.

The 4-4-2 provides a solid foundation for teams that want to play through the lines and exploit space on the counter. This lineup is best suited for matches against teams that play with a high line and leave gaps behind their defense.
