Raspadori looks to cut inside from the left to create passing lanes, while Kean pushes wide on the right to stretch the opposition. They work together to press the opposition full backs and force turnovers in the final third.

Italy finds many advantages through this specific formation. The wide roles of Dimarco and Cambiaso create constant overloads on the flanks, forcing opponents to shift constantly. Having Bastoni and Calafiori in the back three allows for a high line that can trap opponents. Furthermore, the midfield duo of Barella and Tonali provides a way to control the tempo and drive the ball forward during transitions.
