Tanner and Tyler operate in the deeper roles to shield the back four and intercept passes, while Pavel sits in the advanced position as the attacking ten to create chances. Pavel looks to find pockets of space between the lines to receive the ball and turn. This trio works to maintain compactness, with Tanner and Tyler dropping deep to help build play from the back when the opposition presses.

The attacking unit utilizes three dedicated forwards to stretch the opposition defense. Tolisso acts as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and bring others into play. On the flanks, Afonso and Moreira Da Sousa operate as wide wingers, with Afonso looking to cut inside to shoot and Moreira Da Sousa using his pace to stretch the play. These forwards must press the opposition defenders immediately upon losing possession to force turnovers in dangerous areas.

Lyon gains a significant advantage through the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The proximity of Pavel to Tolisco and the wingers creates immediate pressure on the ball carrier. Another strength lies in the wide overloads when Nicolas and Afonso push forward together, forcing the opposing full back into difficult one on one situations.
