Starting Lineup

A high pressing and vertical style of play defines SK Rapid in this 2-5-3 formation. This lineup seeks to dominate the middle of the pitch and force turnovers high up the field to launch immediate attacks. By pushing many bodies forward, the team intends to overwhelm the opponent in their own half and maintain constant pressure on the ball.

Hedl stands between the posts to command the area and organize the back line. The defensive unit consists of a narrow duo of central defenders, Raux Yao and Horn, who must stay compact to protect the central zone. Because there are only two dedicated defenders, these players must step up to intercept passes and cover the space behind a very high line. The team relies on quick recovery runs to prevent being caught out by long balls played behind them.

The midfield acts as the engine room of SK Rapid, operating in a dense bank of five players. Bolla and J. Auer sit in a double pivot to shield the two central defenders and break up play. Moving ahead of them, Seidl and Amane occupy the central spaces to connect the defense to the final third. Gulliksen operates as the attacking midfielder, looking to find pockets of space between the opponent lines to create chances. This crowded middle makes it difficult for other teams to pass through the center.

In the attacking phase, the formation pushes three players deep into the opponent territory. Antiste leads the line as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and occupy the central defenders. On the flanks, Dahl and Wurmbrand act as wide attackers to provide width and stretch the defense. These forwards press the opposition backline aggressively to prevent them from building play from the back. The movements of Dahl and Wurmbrand often pull defenders wide, creating gaps for Gulliksen to exploit.

One major advantage of this lineup is the numerical superiority in the middle of the park, which allows the team to control much of the game. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, suffocating the opponent in their own half. By flooding the central areas, SK Rapid can quickly intercept the ball and switch play to the wings to catch the opposition out of position.
