CORSO and BIAVATI operate as attacking wing backs, tasked with providing width and tracking back to maintain the five man line. The unit works together to squeeze the space between the lines and force the opposition into wide areas.

The midfield consists of a four man line that sits in front of the back five. BURGNICH and PAROLA work as a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. MALDINI operates on the left side of this block to help protect the flank, while RIGAMONTI plays as an attacking ten behind the lone striker. RIGAMONTI is tasked to press aggressively to win the ball high and connect the defensive unit to the attack. This midfield group must hold a compact shape to deny passing lanes to the opponent.

In the final third, COMBI plays as a lone striker to lead the line. He must hold up the ball and fight for long balls to allow the midfield to move up the pitch. The team builds attacks through wide channels as CORSO and BIAVATI push forward to provide crosses. When transitioning from defense to attack, the goal is to find COMBI or allow RIGAMONTI to arrive late into the box.
