Boca Football Formation
Starting Lineup
BREY · PELLEGRINO (BATTAGLIA) · DI LOLLO · AYRTON · GOROSITO · BLANCO · PAREDES · ASCACIBAR · ANDER H (ZENÓN) · ZEBALLOS · UN 9 (EL QUE SEA)A defensive and compact identity defines Boca in this 5-4-1 formation. The team relies on staying deep and hitting teams on the break to find success. This lineup is built to frustrate opponents by clogging the middle and forcing play out wide before looking to launch long balls or quick transitions.
BREY guards the goal as the last line of defense. A back five provides a heavy block with PELLEGRINO, AYRTON, and DI LOLLO occupying the central roles to defend the box and win aerial duels. BLANCO and GOROSITO act as wing backs, tasked with tracking back to form a five man line when defending but pushing high to provide width when the team wins the ball. These defenders must shift together to close gaps and cover one another if a runner breaks the line.
The midfield works in a tight block to prevent play through the center. PAREDES sits in front of the back five to shield the defense and intercept passes. ASCACIBAR and ANDER H operate in the central spaces to press opponents and win second balls, while ZEBALLOS pushes higher to connect the midfield to the attack. This unit must stay close together to ensure the opponent cannot play between the lines.
In the attacking phase, UN acts as a lone striker to hold up the ball and bring others into play. The attack relies on the movement of ZEBALLOS and the wide runs of BLANCO and GOROSITO to create chances. The front line must press the opposition defenders to force errors, even if they are often isolated against a deep block.
Boca finds strength in the compactness of their defensive unit when they sit deep. The formation allows for quick transitions where the wing backs can sprint forward to create wide overloads. Having a three man central defense with PELLEGRINO, AYRTON, and DI LOLLO makes it very difficult for opponents to find space in the penalty area.
This 5-4-1 formation focuses on defensive solidity and narrowness. It is best suited for games against technically superior sides where Boca needs to absorb pressure and strike on the counter.
