Starting Lineup

A focus on defensive solidity and rapid transitions defines the Türkiye lineup, which operates in a 5-2-3 formation. This system relies on a compact block to frustrate opponents before launching quick attacks through wide areas. By utilizing five defenders, Türkiye seeks to control the space between the lines and remain hard to break down when sitting deep.

Asım acts as the last line of defense, commanding his area from the goal line. The back five includes Ali Asaf acting as the central anchor of the defense, flanked by Batıkan on the left and Yunus Emre on the right. This central trio works to cover ground and intercept passes in the middle of the box. On the flanks, Miraç and Yusuf operate as wing backs, tasked with tracking back to defend the wide zones and pushing up to provide width during ball progression.

The midfield consists of a central pair, with Habip and Cemal occupying the two central roles. They work as a double pivot to shield the back three and regain possession in the middle third. Habip and Cemal must stay close together to prevent opponents from passing through the center, while also looking to break the line with vertical passes once the ball is won. This duo serves as the bridge that connects the defensive unit to the attacking front three.

In the attacking third, Türkiye utilizes three forwards to stretch the opposition defense. Çınar/Yaman leads the line as the lone striker, tasked with holding up the ball and making runs into the channels. Kerim and Aras operate as wide attackers, cutting inside from the left and right to create scoring chances. These three players lead the first line of the press, forcing the opposition to play long and allowing the wing backs and central defenders to step up and intercept.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when Yusuf and Miraç overlap the wingers. This forces the opposing full backs to make difficult decisions between tracking the run or marking Kerim and Aras. Additionally, the formation offers great compactness when defending, as the players can quickly shift to form a dense block that is very difficult to penetrate through the middle.
